handscupe® paresis is an ergonomically-shaped medical hand rest enabling the correct positioning of paretic hands and therefore ensuring the required rest.
The use of handscupe® paresis can specifically support the treatment of paretic hand symptoms such as spasms, contractures or flaccid paralysis.
The ergonomically-shaped hand rest has been optimised for positioning the hand in neutral position and allows for counteracting contractures and fluid retention/congestion.
handscupe® paresis allows to put the hand and fingers in a position, which can prevent congestion symptoms and contractures. Flexor and extensor muscles of the hand are positioned in a resting (neutral) position. This leads to a preferably wide opening of the carpal tunnel and to normal blood circulation.
Paresis may occur in conjunction with neurological diseases, especially following a stroke, brain damage or other diseases affecting the central nervous system.
handscupe® paresis may be applied to hands in need of rest with intact skin, suffering from pathological symptoms as consequences of paresis or plegias especially following stroke, craniocerebral trauma, infantile cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, paraplegia or disc herniation.
Indications are defined by the attending physician.
An application has been submitted for inclusion in the GKV's list of medical aids.
No contraindications are known for the use of the handscupe® paresis.
In case of congestions or swellings, the fixation strap should no longer be used, and the attending therapist or physician should be consulted.
In any case, patients with persisting pain, fluid retention/congestion, or swelling should pause their treatment and consult the treating physician or therapist.
Adult patients with one of the indications described.
Users can be medical professionals and patients in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
With the device being used appropriately and the hand positioned correctly, no adverse reactions, intolerances, or allergic reactions have been reported to date.
In order to maintain the functionality of the handscupe® paresis, it should be handled carefully. Inappropriate handling may impair the functionality of the handscupe® paresis.
The textile components of the handscupe® paresis can be gently washed with soap in lukewarm water at 30°C. The plastic parts can be disinfected by wiping and can also be cleaned with lukewarm water at 30°C and soap.
The ergonomically-shaped hand rest ensures a simple handling.
The correct hand position on the handscupe® paresis is achieved by sitting down and laying your forearm on a firm surface (e.g. a table).
Please make sure that the fingers are positioned precisely in the finger moulds.
In this way, the metacarpal region of the hand is supported by the bulge of the handscupe® paresis.
It is not crucial, where the finger tips are positioned.
If necessary, the handscupe® paresis can be fixed to the hand. The fixation strap is attached in the guide slots provided, pulled over the back of the hand and fastened with the velcro fastener.
Treatment should be performed for a duration of at least 1x60 minutes or 2x30 minutes per day.
If you are feeling well, you can continue the treatment as long as you enjoy.
